Insulation Boards, Rigid, Floor, High Impact, Polystyrene, Buy, Price
Insulation boards come in many different forms;
such as rigid insulation boards, Styrofoam sheets, and polystyrene sheets.
The most popular form of home insulation for thermal and acoustic purposes is extruded polystyrene. Polystyrene foam board insulation can be used to insulate almost any part of your home. They are great thermal resistors and also add structural support to your home. Foam board insulation sheathing reduces the amount of heat allowed to conduct through structural elements such as wood or steel studs.
Polystyrene is available in two forms. These forms are extruded polystyrene, and expanded polystyrene. Expanded polystyrene is not used for home insulation as often as it is used for packaging materials that are to be shipped and for gardening pots and other materials like that. Extruded polystyrene is the more common building insulator because it is more effective in trapping air as it is denser than expanded polystyrene. Extruded polystyrene is more expensive that expanded polystyrene because it is denser, and more technology and effort is put into making it. The insulation power of extruded polystyrene is dependent on the density of the material. It also has much more compressive strength than expanded polystyrene insulation and is better suited for use on roofs and for wall panels. Extruded polystyrene is also much more resistant to moisture absorption than expanded polystyrene. ![]()
One of the biggest problems for basements is when there is an un-insulated concrete floor. This is one of the biggest causes of large energy bills. Basement floor insulation is done by first cleaning the surface of the concrete. Then place 6-mil polyethylene sheets over the floor to protect it from moisture, tape the seams and glue the edges of the polyethylene to the concrete using a caulking gun. By doing so, the sheet is held in place and does not move. Then, you place out 2×4 sleepers around the edges of the room, and fastening them to the slab with masonry nails. In this step, using a nail gun is an option. On top of this layer, place a one and a half inch think rigid insulation board between the sleepers.
On top of the layer of insulation boards, place three quarter inch plywood sheets which are not parallel to the sleepers. On top of the plywood, any flooring material can be used. By doing this process, you will ensure that your basement is properly insulated, and you’ll be saving a lot of money on heating, and electricity bills. ![]()
An option of insulation boards that is very environmentally friendly is kingspan insulation. The “Kingspan ThermaZero ODP Range” is the most environmentally friendly of kingspan insulation boards. The ODP in its name refers to the “Ozone Depletion Potential” which in its case is zero. If insulating, this form of insulation will really help protect the environment from ozone depletion. The materials used to make this type of insulation board does not damage the ozone layer in any way, and is an excellent choice for insulation as it provides most thermally efficient insulation.
